FIRESCAPING &
POST FIRE REMEDIATION
Thoughtful selection of plants, their placement and spacing will reduce a landscape’s fuel load, reduce the speed at which fire burns and the distance that embers travel. Creating a defensible space around your home will make a great difference during a wildfire. The choice of materials plays a significant role as well.
Soil erosion quickly becomes a pressing issue following the fire scars on the land. Building a robust network of roots is as important, if not more, than the above ground portion of the landscape visible to the eye. Let us help you design a new garden that is not only beautiful to behold but also serves the health and integrity of the soil and land beneath.
MEET THE FOUNDER
Katarina Richards, owner
My first experiences with landscape design were of informal and functional nature. I spent my childhood observing and helping my horticulturalist father convert a home lot into a vast garden paradise of ornamental and food producing plants. Our home butted against a forest where my family spent countless hours relaxing and observing the rhythms and changes in nature's complex web of life.
Learning to understand soil composition, surrounding plant communities and climate conditions have helped lay my foundation for creating landscapes defined by year round interest of color, texture, lasting beauty and function.
I never lived a day without a sense of connection to the living force of nature everywhere around us and a desire to understand it.
I received my formal education in Horticulture at UCLA, with a specialty in Arboriculture. I am a certified California Native Plant Landscaper by the Theodore Payne Foundation.
